Newly improved Microsoft Teams Guest access

In our November post, Microsoft Teams Guest Access, we mentioned: “Later, Microsoft will add the ability for anyone with a Microsoft Account to be added as a guest in Teams.

Well, that time is now! Microsoft have now started rolling out the ability to add anyone as a guest in Microsoft Teams.

While it is true that Teams Guest access has been around for a while, this is a new configuration feature that is being rolled out on Guest accounts! Previously, guests had to have an Azure Active Directory account. Whereas now, anyone with a business or consumer email account, such as, Gmail, iCloud, and others can participate in Microsoft Teams as a guest, with access to team chats, meetings, and files.

Another aspect we covered the in November post was Security and Compliance – all guests are covered by the same compliance and auditing protection as the rest of Office 365, so no need to worry over these aspects!

To add a guest to a team, select Add Members in the menu next to the team name.
Then add the guest’s email address. The invitee will receive a welcome email message with information about the team and what to expect now that they’re a member.

Please note that guests still need to have a Microsoft account associated with their email to participate. If the guest doesn’t yet have a Microsoft Account associated with their email address, they will be directed to create one for free.

Teams with guests will be easily identified with text and icons throughout the Teams user interface.
